What should I look for in a beginner guitar pack?
Look for a guitar with a neck width that is an appropriate size for your finger length and hands, and suits the style of music that you want to learn. Adults typically go with full-sized guitars (4/4), while teens or younger children will play smaller sizes. Then check exactly what the pack includes. Depending on the product, for example, a MAX Gigkit beginner guitar pack may include an amplifier, cable, carry bag, strap, tuner, picks or other accessories. Pack contents vary, so use the individual product description as the definitive list before ordering.

Choose the right type of guitar
Acoustic guitars produce sound without requiring an amplifier, making them a practical choice for learning, songwriting and playing at home. Steel-string acoustic guitars offer a bright, familiar sound, while nylon-string models generally feel softer under the fingers and have a wider neck. Electric guitars connect to an amplifier and suit styles ranging from pop and blues to rock and metal. They are often comfortable to hold and can produce a wide variety of sounds when paired with the right amp or effects. Bass guitars cover the lower register of a band or arrangement. They use thicker strings and require a suitable bass amplifier when you want to hear them at performance or practice volume. For something smaller and easy to carry, browse our range of ukuleles.Buying your first guitar
The best beginner guitar depends on the music you want to play, the size and feel of the instrument, and whether you need extra equipment. If you need more help deciding, read DJ City’s complete guide to choosing an acoustic guitar. It explains guitar sizes, nylon and steel strings, beginner budgets and what to consider when buying for a child.Complete your guitar setup
Electric and bass players will normally need a compatible guitar amplifier. Check whether the model is designed for electric guitar, bass or acoustic guitar, as each type of amplifier is voiced differently. You can also explore guitar pedals and effects to shape your sound, or read the DJ City beginner’s guide to guitar effects pedals for an introduction to tuners, overdrive, distortion, delay and reverb. For greater freedom while rehearsing or performing, compare wireless guitar systems.
